(I am catching up... This is from Saturday!)
Our little league has different "leagues" in it, T-ball, Coach Pitch , AA minors, AAA minors, majors and juniors. But they also have what they call the Challenger league. This is a league for special needs children.
It is a fantastic concept. It's non-competitive - just teaching and playing. They assign the major league teams to help the Challenger team. I think it is seriously awesome.
So on Saturday, Trevor's team got to help. These kids go and have one of coolest experiences they'll have in their young lives. They help the kids in the field. They play catch with them. Depending on their disabilities, sometimes they will help them run, help push them in a wheel chair or run in their place when they bat. It gives these young boys such a wonderful insight. It teaches them patience, joy in the effort, and gratitude.
Trevor came home and went on and on about how cool it was. He would tell me of each of the kids he helped by name and what they could do. Never once did he mention, what their challenges were, or what they couldn't do. He talked with such excitement about the boy who "ripped one clear out there, OK, out of the infield. But he could really hit."
It is a touching experience to watch.
I am grateful that my family can have experiences like these. I am grateful for incredible parents of special needs children. You are such wonderful advocates for their children. You are inspirational. Thank you for allowing my son to experience how amazing your children are.
